BBC Earth gets YouTube channel

BBC Worldwide's BBC Earth natural history brand now has its own channel on video sharing site YouTube.

Tuesday, 2 June 2009

BBC Earth is the brand behind shows such as Planet Earth outside of the UK and the new YouTube channel will allow web users to watch clips from a variety of programmes, including Blue Planet and The Life Of Mammals.

More than 50 clips will be made available initially, with more to be added on a weekly basis.

The YouTube channel will also play a part in BBC Worldwide's promotional efforts for the official BBC Earth website.

BBC Worldwide renewed its deal with YouTube regarding its video channels last month.

"I'm delighted that the BBC Earth channel on You Tube will now allow people all round the world to enjoy some of the very best of the great content from the BBC natural history unit online," comments Neil Nightingale, head of the BBC's natural history unit.

The BBC formed an agreement with YouTube to set up three news and entertainment channels on the website aimed at both UK and international viewers in 2007.

As part of the deal, the BBC receives a share of the advertising revenue generated through traffic to the ads placed on its YouTube channels.
