‘The Buzz on your shop window online’ (available to download at the foot of this page) identifies several key areas that will help you rethink the makeup of your shop window online and help you drive your online presence to the next level. You may already be using some or all of them already, but take time to consider the level and depth of your use. Are you truly maximising the internet’s potential as a branding medium or just relying on its direct response capabilities?

In internet terms the most obvious equivalent to the traditional, high street shop window is the homepage. The leading online retailers are already recognising the importance of this area, with the best examples amongst them refreshing their content regularly; employing video and flash technology to entertain, inform and showcase products; and taking care to extend their brand values into the online space.

What few brand owners appear to realise is that the homepage should actually signify the midpoint in their consumers’ journey from interest to purchase.

On the crowded high street there are limitations to the number of ways you can get people to view your shop window and enter your store. There are, however, a number of important online tools at your disposal that when used effectively can both drive consumers to (and act as an extension of) your website.
