YouTube has launched a new section on its website with the aim of encouraging more users to get involved with citizen journalism.Monday, 29 June 2009
The YouTube Reporters' Center offers advice and tips from news experts on how web users can improve the way in which they record and edit videos reporting some form of news, whether it involves information on a major national event or a more local occurrence.
Katie Couric of CBS News, Bob Woodward of the Washington Post and Arianna Huffington of the Huffington Post are among those sharing their expertise through the new website.
Users can also learn more about media law, fact checking stories and journalistic principles and upload their own videos offering tips to others on citizen journalism.
In addition, news organisations can apply directly to YouTube to become an official news partner of the video sharing site.
"This isn't meant to be a one-way conversation. For the first time on YouTube, these reporters are making themselves available to engage with you directly," says Olivia Ma of YouTube News and Politics.
Recent statistics released by Nielsen Online showed that YouTube was in the top ten search results for all of the main queries relating to the Iranian election last week.
