Video streaming website YouTube has launched a new section for full length TV shows for UK users.

Friday, 20 November 2009

Those logging onto the site can currently view 5,000 videos, with the majority of these being full shows.

Over 60 partners, such as BBC Worldwide, Turner Broadcasting, ITN, Guinness World Records and Fremantle, have signed up to offer their content on YouTube.

Shows are free to view and, in several cases, carry advertising.

The offering comes after YouTube agreed a deal with Channel 4 last month to enable online access to programmes such as Hollyoaks, Peep show and Jamie At Home.

Patrick Walker, video partnerships director for YouTube, says: "The shows section of the site will make it easier for users to discover videos from the biggest names in British broadcasting and help our content partners reach new audiences and generate new revenues."

More partners and content will added to the scheme over the next few months, with a full range of Channel 4 programmes expected to be made available early next year.

The broadcaster plans to use YouTube for further initiatives over the next few months. It utilised the site to invite users to audition for Big Brother earlier this year.
