According to Google’s Trevor Claiborne, “keyword targeting can sometimes feel like a guessing game” with potential customers performing “hundreds of millions of searches”.
Writing on Google’s official blog, Claiborne explains that the new tool will show what the most popular search terms are, helping marketers "take advantage of missed opportunities" by discovering keywords that are relevant but not part of AdWords campaigns.
Claiborne adds that even those not using AdWords could benefit, stating: "A digital camera blog could decide which cameras to review by looking at which camera models attract the most queries."
The search-based keyword tool is currently available in the UK and the US and is expected to be rolled out worldwide in the coming months.
Last week YouTube - which is owned by Google - announced that it had introduced a sponsored videos service to help make content more visible.
