Nearly 3.6 billion online video ads were watched in July in the US with Hulu generating the most views with 783 million, new research by comScore has found.
Tremor Media Video Network came second with 452 million ad views followed by BrightRoll Video Network with 248 million.
Video ads reached 44.7 per cent of the total US population in the month of July.
The top site on which Americans watched online general video content was on YouTube with 143.2 million unique views,followed by Yahoo! sites with 55.1 million viewers.
For the first time, social networking site Facebook was in the top three as it received 46.6 million viewers.
As well as showing the most video ads to the US, Hulu had high viewer engagement with the average consumer watching content on the site for 158 minutes. It is emerging as one of the most popular sites to watch TV programmes online.
It was reported in the New York Times on August 16th that Hulu is planning to offer some of its shares to the public for the first time in the hope of raising capital.
