This Christmas saw Amazon have its best ever festive season in terms of sales.
According to the online retail giant, consumers around the world ordered more than 6.3 million products from its sites on December 15th - a peak day for shopping - alone.
This is equivalent to 72.9 items being ordered every second, while Amazon shipped goods to more than 210 countries overall during the Christmas season.
Over 99 per cent of orders were shipped on time to arrive at their destinations before the Christmas deadline, with more than 5.6 million units sent on the busiest day of the period.
"We are extremely grateful to our customers," says Jeff Bezos, founder and chief executive of Amazon.
Meanwhile, a number of UK high street retailers launched their online sales on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. These included Debenhams, Marks & Spencer and Tesco.
According to a recent forecast from IMRG, UK consumers were expected to spend nearly £104 million online on December 25th this year.
