Amazon reveals UK spending trends over the last 15 years

Amazon.co.uk is the first port of call for swathes of online shoppers across the country, and the retailer has now revealed its best-selling products to celebrate reaching its landmark 15th anniversary.

Among the top items are the trilogy of the Fifty Shades of Grey books, the Harry Potter novels and video games in the Call of Duty Franchise.

Although Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was tenth in the list of best-selling books, it was nonetheless the fastest-selling product of all-time on Amazon when it was released.

Adele has been the best-selling artist with her physical albums 21 and 19 coming in first and second of the album chart, respectively. Interestingly however, she is fourth on the digital list, which sees Lady Gaga come out on top.

Mamma Mia! has been the biggest selling DVD on Amazon, beating Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and The Inbetweeners Movie to the top spot.

Xavier Garambois, vice-president of EU Retail at Amazon EU, explained that although the company sells a huge range of products, it is the entertainment category that has been the backbone of its operation.

"It’s fascinating to look back at our biggest sellers – it gives a wonderful picture of the icons of entertainment culture which have defined the UK since 1998," he said.
