Augmented reality ad launched by Dabs.com

05/05/2010

Dabs.com, in partnership with Flixmedia.tv, has launched the first ad campaign which allows users to see a virtual 3D Acer laptop in their hands without the need for glasses.

Using augmented reality, a 3D view complete with depth perception image of the Acer Aspire 5738D laptop is sent to the user who can see the computer from different perspectives.

A promotional ad will appear in the June edition of T3 magazine and when it is held in front of a webcam the user can take part in the 3D experience.

Michelle Helme, online marketing manager for Dabs.com, said: "Augmented reality has the potential to be revolutionary and we were very excited to see how it could work for online retail. This project shows how it can bring 'shopping for the senses' to the online experience."

She added that the user can almost feel the product and that the campaign has received a positive response so far.

There will be regular posts and discussions on social media sites Twitter and Facebook while promotional banner ads on Dabs.com will encourage visitors to click through to the landing page.

Dabs.com is an online technology retailer which sells a range of electronic objects.
