The Microsoft product has now recorded two monthly hikes in this particular market, having grown its share to 8.4 per cent in June, according to digital analyst firm comScore.

With 64.7 per cent of the market share, Google is still the dominating company in the search and advertising world, although this figure does represent a drop from June's total of 65 per cent.

Yahoo!'s share also dipped, with comScore revealing a 0.3 per cent drop to 19.3 per cent in July.

Search engines Ask and AOL recorded no change in July - they hold 3.9 per cent and 3.1 per cent of the market share respectively.

Earlier this month, Google announced that it is testing new search engine technology that aims to improve speed, accuracy and comprehensiveness of search results.

Developers have dubbed the system Caffeine, which will not change the look of the search engine on the surface, but will develop the service's architecture.

According to market research firm Hitwise, Google accounted for more than 87 per cent of the UK search market at some points last year.
