Facebook has started to implement recently announced changes to its homepage.
Users will now find that a real time stream of friend updates has become the main focus of the new member homepage, allowing them to see the latest comments, photos and other content as they are posted to the website.
Facebook has also relocated its Publisher options for the uploading of photos, videos, links and other files to the top of the main page, while a new Highlights feature focuses on selected content that is not posted in real time, such as events, pokes and notifications of birthdays.
"We think you'll find that the new home page makes it even easier for you to create content and receive real-time updates," comments Peter Deng, product manager at Facebook.
"It also gives you even more control over who and what you see in your stream by offering new filters," he adds.
The changes, along with plans to turn Pages run by celebrities and companies into profiles more akin to standard user profiles, were announced by Facebook last week.
Facebook last initiated a large scale redesign of the site in July last year, which concentrated on realigning the focus of user profiles on News Feeds and the Wall, as well as improving usability through a new tab based navigation system.
