Google has added a new function that will give prominence to social content found in its social network Google+ in its search results.
The new service, called 'Search, Plus Your World', will provide more personalised search results for its users, as they will have access to content they or a friend has posted on Google+.
This includes photographs, news and comments that are posted on the social network.
Amit Singhal who focuses on improving information retrieval at Google told the Washington Post: "At Google, we always want to return the most comprehensive and relevant answers to your questions, and many times those answers are in the open public web, but many times those answers are in your own personal content.
"This is the first time we're bringing personal content right into the results page."
Google's search results will not include any social content posted on Facebook or Twitter, which has led to criticism from the micro-blogging site.
In other Google news, the search engine is in the process of revamping its homepage to make it simpler to use. It will have a drop-down menu listing its services, with Google+ at the top.
