Steve Jobs, co-founder and chief executive officer of Apple, was back in the public eye again yesterday as his company announced changes to its iPod product.

Jobs was on stage in San Francisco to present a number of new products, having survived pancreatic cancer and a liver transplant earlier this year.

Attendees at the Californian event heard how Apple will cut prices on a number of its iPod music players and has plans to build a video camera, voice recorder and pedometer into the iPod Nano.

New iPod operating and music software was also revealed during the emotional gathering.

Changes have been made to the Apple product line following the release of a number of new innovations from the company's competitors.

The Apple chief also took the opportunity to pay his respects to his organ donor, who was the tragic victim of a car crash.

"I wouldn't be here without such generosity," Jobs explained, before commending the Apple executive team for running the firm "very ably" in his absence.

Reports suggest that microblogging website Twitter went down during Jobs' address, although it is unclear what caused the malfunction.
