Mail Online enjoys boost in July visitors

27/08/2010

Mail Online was the only UK national newspaper website to experience a monthly gain in visitor traffic after the high point seen in June as a result of the World Cup.

According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations Electronic, the newspaper saw year-on-year growth of 44 per cent in its unique daily readership, which reached 2.5 million during July.

This was 0.38 per cent above the figure witnessed in June, enough to bring its total monthly readership to 44.2 million.

Guardian.co.uk remained in second place, despite experiencing a five per cent drop in the number of unique daily visitors, which fell to 1.9 million.

Despite this, it was still able to amass a 30 per cent larger audience in July than seen during the same month last year, pulling in 34.6 million viewers across the month.

Telegraph.co.uk was in third place with 1.6 million daily uniques, down nine per cent on June, while the Mirror Group Digital welcomed 514,000 unique daily visitors, a drop of three per cent.

Information on Times Online and Sun Online, both of which are owned by News International, was not available because the newspapers are not publishing their figures while they continue to develop their paywall strategies.

According to ComScore, unique monthly visitor numbers to Times Online have almost halved since the introduction of the subscription, from 2.79 million in May to 1.61 million in July.
