President Barack Obama has turned to Facebook and Twitter to kick-start his campaign for re-election to the White House in 2012.
Obama also sent an email to his supporters stating the job of preparing for re-election needs to start now.
"We're doing this now because the politics we believe in does not start with expensive TV ads or extravaganzas, but with you - with people organising block-by-block, talking to neighbours, co-workers and friends," the email stated.
A video was also posted on his website asking people "are you in?"
So far, the video which has also been posted on Facebook, has generated 19 million 'likes' and the president of the US has also launched his own hashtag on Twitter - #Obama2012.
The video is two-minutes in total and includes interviews with supporters. It does not include any spoken word from Obama.
This is the first time that a president has used social media and digital marketing to announce the fact they will be running for re-election and to launch their campaign.
Obama was elected to the White House in 2008 and he took office in January 2009. He is the 44th president of the United States of America.
