Online advertising in the UK is expected to grow by seven per cent in 2010 overtaking ad spending on TV and print, a new report suggests.
eMarketer has produced a report entitled UK Online Advertising Spending and Trends, which found that online advertising has not been affected by the recession as much as other forms of media marketing.
UK advertisers spent £3.54 billion online in 2009 – an increase by 5.7 per cent compared to 2008. Other forms of advertising suffered a double digit drop of 16 per cent .
Karin Von Abrams, eMarketer senior analyst and author of the report, said: "Internet ad spending continued to grow during the economic downturn, online marketers are well placed to capitalize on the recovery, whether this is slow and halting, or steady and more rapid."
The firm estimates that online ad spending will steady out in 2011 but will peak again in 2012 due to the Olympics.
