Twitter now the fastest growing social network

31/01/2013

Twitter is now expanding faster than any other social network, with almost half a billion internet users having an account, according to new data from the Global Web Index (GWI).

This amounts to more than a third (36 per cent) of all people on the web.

During the second half of 2012, the number of individuals using the microblogging website at least once a month expanded by 40 per cent.

In the same period, Facebook only grew by 33.4 per cent to 693.5 million users, while Google+ expanded by 27.7 per cent to 343 million active monthly visitors.

An impressive 59 per cent of all Twitter accounts are used on a monthly basis, which is an increase of nine per cent since the beginning of 2012, which makes it a very promising website for advertisers.

Twitter was recently valued at $9 billion (£5.6 billion) following an investment from the world's largest asset manager. This is an increase of ten per cent since its last fundraising in 2011.
