Twitter redesigns homepage

Twitter has launched a new homepage specifically designed to make it easier for newcomers to the microblogging service to understand its purpose.

The changes have been implemented to emphasise Twitter's real time search capabilities.

Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter, says in a blog post that the site can no longer rely on simply explaining what a tweet is to get new users to engage with the website.

He states that newcomers to the website are likely ask why they would need to make such posts in the first place.

"However, demonstrating the power of Twitter as a discovery engine for what is happening right now through our Search and Trends often awakens a sense of wonder," Stone adds.

New changes to the homepage will be made over time in response to relevant feedback from users.

Only those who are not signed into Twitter when they access its homepage will be able to view the new design.

The changes come after Twitter launched a guide to using the website as a marketing tool for businesses last week.

Marketers can now access case studies, lists of online and offline resources, general tips and advice, and a glossary of Twitter related terms through the Twitter 101 microsite.
