YouTube has launched a new mobile website that is designed and optimised for people to watch and share videos while on the move.
The new site is built on HTML 5 standards and offers social networking features including Twitter, Facebook and Google Buzz integration.
As well as an updated user interface, the new site - accessible through mobile phone web browsers at m.youtube.com - boasts added extras including video playlists and favourites.
YouTube owner Google said in a statement that mobile video consumption has increased exponentially since the video sharing website was first launched on mobile devices in 2007.
"Today, more than ever, YouTube knows that you want to be able to find and access your favourite videos wherever you are," the company said. "That's why YouTube's rolling out an updated version of the mobile site."
The launch of the new mobile website comes after Google last month revealed that consumption of YouTube videos on mobile devices rose by 160 per cent year-on-year in 2009, with more than 100 million playbacks every day.
It is estimated that approximately 24 hours of video are uploaded to the site every minute of the day, making YouTube the largest website on the internet for online video.
