Photo-sharing website and app Instagram has released official figures for the first time, showing that there are 90 million active monthly users, while the company insists that it is still experiencing "very strong growth".
This news may come as a surprise to many corners, given the furore that surrounded Instagram recently when it made changes to its terms and conditions. The alterations appeared to give it ownership of the photos its users upload, giving them the option to use them in advertising.
Despite the row, Kevin Systrom, the co-founder of Instagram told the technology website AllThingsD that the website is experiencing strong growth across the world.
The statistics also showed that 40 million photos are shared every day, with 1,000 comments and 8,500 'likes' made every second.
Mr Systrom rebuffed allegations made about the terms and conditions of the website in a blog post a month ago, saying: "The language we proposed also raised question about whether your photos can be part of an advertisement. We do not have plans for anything like this and because of that we’re going to remove the language that raised the question."
